The Process & Timelines
The process of installing a new roof does add one additional step to the overall process. You can find a step-by-step guide in our Process Overview article.
Depending on the availability of roofers, there may be an additional 30-45 days added to the total project timeline. Before installing your solar system, we are required to obtain approval for a roofing permit, complete the re-roofing process, and then have it inspected by the city.
The duration of your re-roofing project will depend on factors such as the current roof type, the type of roof you plan to install, and the size of your home. Once you have scheduled a date with the roofers, they will be able to inform you about the estimated completion time. As a general guideline, it is recommended to allocate 1-2 days for tear off and 1-3 days for installing the new roof, with the actual timeframe varying based on the size of your home and the type of roof being installed.
After the re-roofing has been completed, the roofing team will schedule an inspection to ensure that it has been properly installed and meets the required standards. Roof inspections are typically scheduled within one week of completion.
Requesting a Roofing Estimate
If you suspect that your roof may need repairs before installing solar panels, you can inform us and we will be able to obtain a roof bid for you and include it into your proposal.
After completing your site survey, if we determine that we cannot proceed with the solar installation due to a roof issue, we will collect all the necessary information to provide you with a roof bid.

Handling Re-Roof on Your Own
If you decide to handle the re-roof on your own or use your own roofer, you won't be able to include the roofing costs in your financing. Only by using one of Better Earth’s preferred roofers can you include the cost of the roof in your financing.
Additionally, you'll need to provide proof that the roof inspection has passed and submit pictures of the new roof before scheduling the solar installation.
After Re-Roof Completion
Once your re-roof has been completed, either by Better Earth or on your own, we can proceed with the solar installation. To learn more about the next steps, please refer to our article: What Happens After Installation.
